My Nonna’s Tomato Sauce Recipe

I have thus far neglected to ever post my family tomato sauce recipe. Homemade sauce is just so much better than premade and it’s so easy. Every August/Sept we make a ginormous amount of sauce base (called passata or conserva) in a day long affair but you can make a super selfish sauce from store bought crushed tomatoes. I suggest the ones in glass jars rather than cans though.
1 jar crushed peeled tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
1/3 cup olive oil
1 medium onion, cut in quarters
1-2 cloves garlic
1 tbsp Italian seasoning (parsley, basil, oregano)
Salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup water or broth

1⃣ Heat olive oil in pot and add the onions and garlic. Sauté a few mins until the oil picks up the flavour.
2⃣Add tomatoes, tomato paste, seasoning, salt and pepper. Pour the water into the empty tomato jar and slosh around picking up the remaining sauce and pour into the pot. Mix well.
3⃣Allow sauce to come to a boil then immediately turn down heat to low and simmer for at least 30 mins (but 1-2 hours is better). 4⃣Serve on your favourite pasta.

It’s very very easy and very very tasty!!! The key is the simplicity!
